Set up Telepath in six steps
From a new account to asking Claude about your pipeline. You need a HubSpot account with some closed-won deals in it.
Step 1: Connect HubSpot
Telepath can read your deals.
Telepath reads your deals, companies and contacts. It does not change your own HubSpot fields: it writes one property of its own, the T-Score, to each scored deal when it syncs, and a fit score to companies only if you choose to.
The Connect HubSpot button is on your dashboard and in Settings.
Step 2: Run your first analysis
Your ideal customer profile, built from your won deals, and a score on each open deal with enough data to score.
Once HubSpot is connected, Settings shows one button: Sync my deals and run my first analysis. It syncs your deals from HubSpot, then runs the analysis.
It takes a few minutes. Keep Settings open until it says you can leave the page.
The analysis learns from your closed-won deals, so it needs some in HubSpot. After the first run, Telepath syncs and re-scores your pipeline every night.
Step 3: Get your Claude key
A key that lets Claude read your scored pipeline.
Your Claude connector key lives in Settings, in the Claude connector section. When Settings issues it, the full key is shown once, so copy it then. If Tom issued your key, Settings shows its first characters and he sends you the full key. Lost it? The same section says how to get a new one.
If Settings says your key is on its way, Tom issues it by hand and emails you when it is there.
Step 4: Add Telepath in Claude
You can ask Claude about your pipeline in plain English.
Claude reads your scored pipeline through the connector. The connector is read-only: it cannot change anything in HubSpot.
- In Claude: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector.
- URL:
https://api.telepath.pro/api/mcp - Authentication: No sign-in. Under Request headers, choose Add header, enter
x-api-keyas the name and paste the key Telepath issued you as its value. - Save. Ask: "What's in my pipeline this week, by group?"
- If it refuses something, that's working as designed. Ask it why.
Step 5: See the scores inside HubSpot
Your T-Score shows on your deals in HubSpot.
Telepath writes a property called Telepath T-Score (telepath_t_score) to each scored deal when it syncs. If you choose Write scores to HubSpot on the Company Scores page, it also writes Telepath Fit Score, Telepath Fit State and Telepath Fit As Of (telepath_fit_score, telepath_fit_state, telepath_fit_as_of) to companies.
HubSpot does not show a new property until someone adds it to a view. If you cannot see the score yet, it has not gone missing. It is there, waiting to be shown.
- Add it as a column: in HubSpot go to CRM, then Deals, and choose Table view. Click the view settings icon, then Table settings, then Edit columns. Tick Telepath T-Score, click Apply, then Save.
- Add it to the deal sidebar for everyone: an admin goes to Settings, then Data Management, then Objects, picks Deals, opens the Record Customization tab and clicks Default view. Edit the property list card in the left sidebar and add Telepath T-Score. This needs the Customize record page layout permission or Super Admin.
- Companies work the same way. Whether you can change a shared view depends on your HubSpot permissions. HubSpot changes its menu names from time to time, so if a name here is different on your screen, search HubSpot help for "customize index page columns".
Step 6: Add Slack: win alerts and pipeline commands
A Slack message every time you win a deal, with the companies in your HubSpot that look like it.
- In Settings, click Connect Slack and approve. HubSpot needs to be connected first.
- When a deal moves to closed won, Telepath sends you a direct message: '🏆 <Company> is in!', with up to five companies already in your HubSpot that share its industry or size.
- Want it in a channel instead? Type
/telepath-winsonce in that channel, or choose the channel in Settings. Public channels work straight away. For a private channel, type/inviteand choose Telepath first. - Alerts arrive after the next sync: every night, or straight away when you click Sync deals in Settings.
- If Telepath finds no similar companies, it still tells you about the win and links to Lead Finder to find new ones. The more of your companies have an industry and size in HubSpot, the better the matches.
If Claude says "Authentication failed"
- The key was pasted wrongly. Copy it again from Settings and check there is no space at either end.
- The header name must be exactly
x-api-key, in lower case. The value is the key on its own, with nothing in front of it. - Paste the key on its own, starting sk_live_. Quotation marks, the word Bearer, or any other text around it make it unreadable. A test key (sk_test_) is refused.
- The full key is shown once, when it is issued. If you did not save it, regenerate one in Settings, or email tom@telepath.pro if your key was set up by hand.
- If you see "Couldn't register with the sign-in service", the connector was saved with Sign in now. Edit the connector (or remove it and add it again), choose No sign-in under Authentication, and add the
x-api-keyheader. - If you regenerated your key, the old one stopped working at once. Paste the new one.
- A revoked key is refused on every tool. If you regenerated it in Settings, use the new key; otherwise email tom@telepath.pro.
